How to choose furniture

Choice is a matter of taste, but when in doubt, it is sometimes better to leave it to a professional, preferably a designer or an architect, to work out a plan. At La Boissellerie, we offer you some of these services by creating novel furniture designs.
For best results, we recommend that you complete this preliminary research. Where will the desired furniture be placed? What are the styles and colours of the room? What are the physical dimensions of the room? Are there any climate control constraints? (ex : Harsh sunlight, exessive humidity ) What will the furniture be used for? Is there a way to store everything that you want to put into it? Are there any other people involved in the decision process and have you talked it over with them? If such is the case, are there differences of opinion or taste? After having put all these pieces together, contact us at : yvanv@boissellerie.com and we'll be able to offer you viable solutions to your needs.

To stain or not to stain?

Gorgeous stained furniture can create the most pleasing of effects. Unfortunately during the twenty-three years we spent at building and repairing furniture, we have witnessed the work of a very deceitful ennemy: time. Once a dark coloured stain like mahogany (amongst the most popular) is applied to lightly coloured wood such as birch, eventually wear patches, scratches and chips in the finish let the lighter colours show through. This is unavoidable, very frustrating and that is not easily repaired, often at the price of new furniture. ( A fact some unscrupulous companies capitalize on)
This is why at La Boissellerie, we prefer building furniture out of naturally coloured hard woods and wood veneered composite materials. Whenever we apply stain, we always choose the lightest of colours.
